well is it? was it ever? Anyone for tennis?

We've crept into 2022 with barely a breath on the activity chart, the most seismic event I have seen is my football team winning on a new years day for the first time in forever...and that is what makes me think things just might get better this year... rather than waiting for the next proclamation of doom from our glorious leaders I'll create my own headlines and events to write home about.

Coming up real soon

Thursday 10 February - HOGBAGS book review and illicit drinking den

Half Term - we'll be closed Wednesday (23) and Thursday (24) February

and so it goes

After some terrible weather golf on Saturday 8th Jan, Sunday 16th Jan saw the main peloton head out onto the less boggy, but not quite freezing on top of the hill at Hollingbury and rush around with only three clubs (and possibly a putter) in the time-honoured (since 2003) tradition of the Seamus Mcalister memorial. In its 20th year, the esteemed trophy was won by Sean "don't cut me" Hambrook. For those of you with a need for statistical evidence, it can be found by loitering here a while.

The Decidedly Ordinary Golfers Society (DOGS) meets up about once a month, playing different courses mainly around the southeast, (although next up is a trip to Northern France at the end of March), we are very happy to welcome along new and occasional members so drop us a line if you want in you crazy fools

So only less than a month late we brought the BIG OL CHRISTMAS popular QUIZ OF THE YEAR back to Hassocks on Friday 21 January. Yes we know it's all packed up and finished but if the Olympics can do it...and he put a lot of effort in and who doesn't like to decorate a table and sing Christmas carols - so we did it, alright...only problem was the quiz master forgetting we were doing it so Mystic and the MSHitters became a team casualty. Things passed off most pleasantly with our emergency stand in, but we're hoping for the quizmaster to make it on 18th for the Pop quiz with doors open 6.45pm, quiz starts about 7.45pm at the Hassocks RBL here, or drop into the purple carrot to discuss arrangements over a ridiculously good coffee.

Passing off without a hitch (most surprisingly) on 31st Jan was the newly reappointed Monthly Monday Trivia quiz. Teams up to 4 max, food available if you get there beforehand, a gentle end to the month inside the doors of the Purple Carrot. we'll go outside when it gets less parky

Not soon enough I hear you mutter was the end of dry January, Veganuary and the start of the Tasting season. Thursday 3 February we gave you "How to start your evening" with a focus on aperitifs, bubbles, and a range of whites with appropriate food to match. "Going home in style" is part two of our elongated dinner party on Friday 11 March where we'll take a deep introspective look at some enormous reds and an after-dinner snifter or two. Don't be missing this one.

Philosophy 101 is also back and growing nicely as an amorphous club every first Sunday of the month (2-4pm). Animals, it has been decided after debate, should not be afforded the same rights as humans. Obviously there's more to it than that and topics under the microscope afford some lively and often disparate points of view. Next months topic is yet to be decided, but if you want in on the action drop David a line
